At the audition 5000 boys tried out, but Byrne only liked one of them - Paul Thomas Leo Marazzi - and he was the very first member of a1. Later, one of Byrne's co-workers heard Mark Daniel Read sing along with the band on a concert. He asked him to audition for Byrne, and Byrne really liked what he heard. Now the group had two members, but that wasn't enough. Byrne called Paul McCartney's 'fame' school in Liverpool, The Liverpool Institute of performing arts, to ask if they had some boys who could fit in a boyband. The school recommended the Norwegian Christian Ingebrigtsen. After audition for Byrne, he was the third member, but still they missed one person. Mark had a friend he had played in a band with earlier, Ben Stevens Adams. He asked Ben to sing for Byrne, and after hearing the first verse of his song, Ben was the last member of a1 - ready to take control over thousands of teenage girls hearts.

a1 are also known as the greatest and best group in the entire universe! Ben, Christian, Mark and Paul make up this excellent group which are certain to conquer planet pop. They can sing, they can dance, they can write songs, all this and they still look great! Ben likes soul, Mark likes pop, Christian loves rock and last not least Paul likes punk, and it's this mix of musical tastes that makes there songs so great!

Talent doesn't even begin to describe a1's abilities. Ben Adams was the head chorister at St Margarets in Westminster Abbey. He was so in demand he sang for the the Queen, the Pope and once appeared on the Michael Barrymore show.

Christian Ingebrigsten is certainly devoted to music, and this is reflected in his talent. He studied music at the Paul McCartney fame school, its proper title being 'The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts'. During his course, he focused on studio production, composition and voice. Not only is he an expert guitar player, but his played the piano since he was 6! His dad Stein Ingebrigtsen was a popular artist at the 70`s.

Paul Marazzi's dad was in a band and ever since then he has dreamed of conquering planet pop! At the age of 19 he lived in Benidorm perfecting his dancing, and ended up modelling for Christian Dior! Just as fate has brought these four guys together, it was fate that brought him into the singing world. A German record producer discovered him singing karaoke and helped him to make a demo tape which landed in London. Do you like a1's dance routines? They're mainly thanks to Paul!!!

Chris may have played the piano since he was 6, but Mark Read has been playing it since he was 2. And not only was Paul's dad in a band, but Mark's mum and dad were in a covers band. At the young age of 15, he won the best newcomer award at a major competition in Rumania. No brief outline of Mark would be complete without the word 'Disney', he loves anything Disney!

Somehow a1's managers found four hugely talented people. And we're glad that they did!
